The Proc'ing Storm Wolf

The principle is to use items that proc On Striking fully synergised storm skills whilst attacking in wolf form.

Well i never really was much of a druid fan, i tried a fire claws bear but can't stand single target attacks. Wolves were fun but lacked something. Then whilst messing around with the 1.11 rune armours i came up with the Proc'ing Storm Wolf, and it rocked!!

Abbreviations:

CtC: Chance to Cast

CB: Crushing Blow

MF: Magic Find

IAS: Increased Attack Speed

Lvl: Level

proc: process

Attributes

Str: enough for gear

Dex: Enough for max block

Vit: Rest

Energy: Base

Storm Skills

Cyclone Armour: 20 pts - 2000 points of protection vs Fire, Lightning and Cold, well that really sorts out any resist problems, just got to worry about Poison now. Rain Rune-word Armour also has a 5% CtC @ Lvl 15, this will refresh your armour during fierce combats!

Twister: 20 pts -The Carrion Wind Ring, has an 8% chance to cast Lvl 13 Twister on Striking, and Rain Rune-word Armour has 5% CtC @ Lvl 15 . that is upto 23% CtC per strike.

Tornado: 20 pts -Storm Lash has a 20% CtC lvl 18 Twister on Striking!!

Hurricane: 20 pts -with maxed Cyclone Armour this lasts 50s, which is enough to take down a couple of packs before recasting.

When this tree is maxed out all the CtC items trigger On Striking fully synergized creating a flurry of deadly Twisters and Whirlwinds, combined with the Hurricane you have significant damage and disruption with an area effect.

Summons:

1pt Oak Sage - nice health bonus!

1pt Bear - tough companion!

1pt Carrion Vine - refills your life!

This forms your support mob, they are weak, but can be recast when you recast Hurricane.

Wolf Skills

Lycanthropy: 1pt - nice life bonus!

Werewolf :1pt - Hoooooooowlll!

Feral Rage: 1pt- makes you run faster and improves your leach!

Rabbies:1pt - pre-requisite

Fury:1+pt - your main attack, hits multiple opponents fast. The build is finished at lvl 83, so any leftover points go here.

1pt in each is sufficient, but you could choose to sacrifice maxing Tornado for maxing Fury instead. This means your Stormlash synergy is still at maximum effect, but the other are 1/3 weaker.

Equipment Priorities

Attack Rating - in order to proc a CtC On Strike you must successfully hit your opponent, since we only have 1 pt in Wolf skills, AR must be supplied by items.

Poison Resist - the only resist Cyclone armour doesn't cover.

Cannot be Frozen - essential in all builds.

Shape Shifting skills - since our elemental skills are all CtC they will not benefit from +Skills. However we need to boost our Wolf Skills as much as possible.

Faster Hit Recovery - always useful!

Equipment

Main Weapon: Stormlash with Shael, the kickers favourite is at the heart of this build. It also has a 15% CtC Static Field as well as the 20% CtC Tornado mentioned earlier. The Static combined with area effect damage brings down mobs quickly.

Wolf attacks rely on Weapon IAS, not equipment IAS. With a Shael Storm Lash has 50% Weapon IAS which is enough to reach around 5 attacks per second! Not only that the chances are 1 Tornado and 1 Twister will proc every second too, and with no casting delay to boot!

The Lash also has 33% Crushing Blow which is great for Bosses! There is enough Lightning damage combined with our Hurricane not to worry about Physical Immunes too.

Wind Hammer is the double handed alternative, it has no Static but its single target damage is awesome!

Shield: Stormlash is 1 handed so use a shield, i used a Storm Shield (seemed appropriate!) with enough Dex for Max Block, and its lovely 35% PDR. I put a Perfect Emerald in it to supply Poison Resist.

Switch: +Skills items, for casting Hurricane, summons and Werewolf.

Rings: Carrion Wind, or Raven Frost.

Belt: Trang Ouls gives Cannot be Frozen if you choose not to use a Raven Frost and go for 2 Carrion Winds instead!

Gloves: LavaGout provides a 2% CtC Lvl 10 Enchant on striking, this will sort out our Attack Rating! Remember you don't need equipment IAS.

Armour: Rain Runeword is recommended but not essential because its CtC are low.

Boots: Imortal Kings give nice AR, as do Sanders Rip Rap. Gore Riders for more CB, or War Travellers for MF!

Amulet: any +2 druid amu or Metal Grind if you need the AR.

Helm: Jalals, or Guilaumes for CB, Andarials Visage for Poison Resists or even Shako to MF with.

The only piece of equipment that is essential is the Stormlash the rest are just recommendations based on how i reached my equipment goals. Of course the more CtC items you have the more effective the synergies are.

Method Of Play

Use your switch to cast your summons, Cyclone Armour, then Hurricane. Casting Hurricane has a casting delay of around 4 seconds with werewolf, so run towards the next mob casting Tornado until you can shape-shift into a werewolf, then switch to Stormlash and start to build up your Feral Rage, once fully enraged Fury Fury Fury until your Hurricane goes down then rinse and repeat!

You can take down lots of mobs quickly! Have Fun!|||i was thinking of this build based around windhammer instead of stormlash, not as much damage on the twisters over the 'nados but i liked the idea of the bit of stun you get from twisters. plus i love the big beat stick approach.

nice write up, but seems some of your gear selection is cobbled together at best.|||Its the Static field that i like although wind hammer is a great alternative!

I only wanted to suggest gear rather than dictate the gear i used...

thanks for the input.|||I like your build! Wolves are cool, and elemental ones with no casting delay even cooler!

Now that I think of it - I had no idea that hard points into skills can actually boost chance to cast skills...

Hmm... I really don't get where from you guys get so much (hidden) info for the game. I mean, the problem obviously starts with the game itself not showing anything in regards of detailed information about pretty much anything (the one thing that always bugged me was armor categorization [light, medium, heavy] - why the hell does that not show on item hover?!). Oh well...

Sorry for going a bit off topic here, I just had state that! Anyways - good job renegademaster!|||Windhammer:

speed 5 frames (5 attacks/sec) - note: with shael

chance to cast 33% (1.6 twisters/second)

lvl 22 twister (326.5 dmg fully synergized)

result: 544 dmg/sec on the windhammer

Stormlash:

speed 5 frames (5 attacks/sec) - note: with shael

chance to cast 20% (casts once per second)

lvl 18 tornado (1676.8 dmg fully synergised)

result: 1676 dps

So clearly stormlash is the better choice damage wise. And that's without counting the static field...

On the other hand, since twister has only 2 synergies, using windhammer would free up 20 SP (from cyclone armour, which will still cast from rain, fully synergized) and a lot of dex (no need for max block). More points in vit, some extra points in lyc and sage would give the druid a lot of extra life and more leech due to the higher physical damage. Biggest negatives here are the loss of a usable hurricane and the lesser DR from not having SS. Positive is that you can stay in wolf form (no need to cast any ele skills yourself).

Another option is to go with the fire side of the elemental tree, built around this:

Earth Shifter

Thunder Maul

+250-300% Enhanced Damage

+50% Damage to Undead

+7 To Elemental Skills (Druid Only)

25% Chance To Cast Level 14 Fissure On Striking

10% Increased Attack Speed

33% Chance of Crushing Blow

10% Faster Cast Rate

Level 14 Volcano (30 charges)

and there's some other things that proc molten boulder and firestorm iirc

skills would be max firestorm, max volcano, max geddon, 10 fury, 10 fire claws, 1 in all wolf skills. This would net you with an insane damage geddon (castable in whereform), fissures and firestorms coming out of the ground, molten boulders,...|||Quote:

i read a lot and retain most of it. by a lot i mean just about every decent guide (you start to learn which are "decent" real quick). you also learn which guide writers are great and which shouldnt give up their day jobs. if you want to learn more 'hidden' stuff about the game, read guides by night fish, SSoG, and gimmershred. they all write well and usually with humor. there are other excellent writers, but those three stand out in my mind.

@kardinaal, with that dps, did you take the damage you're doing via your attack? i can imagine that windhammer's doing more directly to the creatures.

ps. there's already an excellent guide for earth shifter. it's what got me to thinking about windhammer, carrion wind, stormlash, rift, horizon's tornado, and wind.|||2 examples of the build:

- Neksja’s Swind Pat

- VoX Dei’s Howling-Wind Pat /yeah, I know shameless selfmention/

Hopefully, these will help polishing your already good looking build guide draft |||those are very cool.|||would this be do-able in bear form? which attack would be best maul, hunger? i've got an up and coming druid, a stormlash, and no desire to make another wolf. i was wanting to give werebear another shot.|||With a Shael rune in the Stormlash, weapon speed calcluator is giving 7 frame Hunger (6 with 30 OIAS) and 9 frame everything else (8 with 10 OIAS, 7 with 55 OIAS). It'll certainly be doable, if you want to give it a shot. I can't guarantee how much you'll like it though.
