Uber slaying Fury Druid: a simple and cheap build

Intro

This build is meant for those who want to build a relatively cheap Fury Druid who can kill Ubers alone and without dying. It is only a PvM build and by no means suitable for PvP.

For this build i didnt use any calculators, hero editors,...or whatsoever. I just tried and saw what worked and what didnt. So dont expect detaild facts about frames per second for attack speed, hit recovery, damage...

I could not lay my hands on the more expensive stuff so i only experimented with low cost weapons. This build is relatively cheap and offers in some ways an alternative to threaden paths.

This Fury druid reached level 91 and it is the only character i have above level 3. So this druid did mf, quests, runs, all on itself. It ended with killing the Ubers in approximately 10min without dying.

Skills
  • Werewolf: 20

  • Lycantrophy: 20

  • Fury: 20

  • ...

Other skills?

Well, they dont matter in UT. Do with them what you want.

I played the game with oak sage 20 and Dire wolf 16 But in UT you will notice you will be alone very very fast. Make no mistake, you can use the skillpoints in pets, spirits, but wich one makes no difference, its just meat that will be fried.

Also contrary to what many say, you dont need feral rage in UT. Fury does it all, even with monsters around you. (Just find a good spot, near a wall or building to reduce the amount of monsters that can stand around you and increase the times you hit the uber you are facing). I never used feral rage.

Toghether with the items i used, i had in total 30 shape skills.

Stats

These are the stats i had before i entered UT:
  • Strenght: 225

  • Dexterity: 109

  • Vitality: 355

  • Mana: 73 (didnt put one point in here)

  • Unused: 27 (i thought just in case,...)

Items

Armor:

Upped jallal's mane with um rune. I think this the best helm there is; res, fhr, skills,...everything you need.

Upped String of ears. You need one with 15 % damage reduction! Verdungo's can be a better alternative thanx to the life boost it gives you. I entered UT with soe.

Chains of honour: This is the most expensive item in the list. It is necessary to reach the needed 300 all resistance. The extra damage to demons, ll, damage reduction,... is all really helpfull!

Draculs grasp: Only reason is life tap. life tap, life tap, life tap. nuff said.

Upped Infernostride: They give you 10% extra to max fire resist and 30% fire resist! Diablo can do whatever he wants, he will just scratch you when you have 85% max fire res. Ik boots would be fine thanx to 40% frw, life and 100+ar. Aldur boots would give you also 40%frw, life, and 30+ fire res. Most people use gore riders but i prefer the extra life, fire res, ar,...

Weapons:

IK maul: (reason for high strenght) plain and simple and very cheap! Make sure it has 40 CB though! 40% CB is enough to enter UT.

The 200%dmg to demons and undead give you massive damage against almost every monster in the game. The strenght of this weapon lies also in the fact it has 2 sockets. One of the fun stuff in this build is a Cham rune. The cham will freeze all your targets (not the cold immunes) for a short while, making it a whole lot easyer to handle packs of monsters and also the bosses. I found it to be a world of difference running around with or without one. For the other socket you are free. You can cham it again, making the freeze chance and duration greater or you can shael it which will increase your attack speed. I chose for the shael.

Weapon change: Azurewrath (with hel rune: takes down high dex need for this weapon, making it 109) + spiritshield. These two dont mather in UT but with azure you have a cheap way to slice through physical immunes in standard play. There is no monster you cant handle with combination of IK and Azure. The shield i just made for fun.

Rings and ammu:

Metalgrid: Get one with at least 425 ar and 30 allres. The combination between these massive ar and res makes it more valuable then mara. The +2all sk of mara cant match the 400+ ar (for a fury druid). And if you want you can take a cute iron golem with you.

2 X raven frost: Get 2 times at least 225 ar!! Same reason as metal, the massive ar. And 2 ravens give you 40 cold absord...It also has cannot be frozen, but that is obvious.

Charms:

Grand charms: Dont spend time searching for shape charms. Fury druid doesnt need much extra skills. Spend your ists on 15 allres charms (i had 6). Charms with 25+ to cold, fire or light are also good (I had one of them for each type).

Small charms: Find 5 allres or 11 to cold, fire, light res to make up for the resistance you lack (must have 300 to all in total and 310 (if use infernostride) to fire res) when you have maxed possible ammount of grand charms in your inventory.

Find or trade an Anni (mine was 16 12) if you are really lucky you can have 20allres in only one square.

Large charm: Only LC you need is a torch! (Mine was 17 19)

Life charms are in my opinion overestimated. I had 2 x 20sc and some lower. But as long as you reach 3000 (or a little less) life in total (without oak sage) you are fine to do UT. Dont spend all your ists on life sc when you want to do PvM, it isnt worth it.

This build provided me with
  • 75% cold and light res after conviction aura of Umephi (300 all res)

  • 85% fire res after conviction aura of Umephi (310 fire res)

  • 75% poison res

  • 40% Crushing blow (Ik maul)

  • 30% FHR, (jalal + two sc with 5% faster hit recovery)

  • Freeze target 3 (Ik maul with cham)

  • 24 life leech (dracul, COH, SOE)

  • 60% increased attack speed (standard on maul + shael rune)

  • 20% increased walk/run (on infernostride)

  • Life tap (dracul)

  • 30 all shape skills, (28 all summon skills, doesnt matter in UT)

  • +/- 3000 life, (+/- 4800 with oak sage, doesnt matter in UT)

  • +/- 13500 ar

  • +/- 2000 defense (without merc aura)

  • 2300-3200 damage (The 200% to demons on IK maul and 200% to demons on COH combined provides enough damage when effect of CB wears off)

Hireling

Many say hirelings dont last long in UT. They are right but that doesnt mean hirelings dont matter in UT. When mephi is dead the time your merc stays alive increases significantly. I used an act 2 defensive merc and geared him up with:

Duress runeword (res, CB and Open wounds)

Guillaumes face (CB)

Reapers Toll which gives chance to decrepify targets. It slows the target and decreases its physical resistance, it works great on the ubers.

Beware, the decripify curse will compete with life tap. But i must say the decripify curse really slows down the ubers. It made Ubaal look like a crippled old men ones he was pinned down a wall. Decripify does its job and can be fun to watch, but watch out when you want life tap all the time.

How i prepared for UT
  • Collected 2.000.000 gold for getting merc back after he dies, repairing COH after killing the ubers (With this amount you dont have to worry about dying ones, you will still have enough money to do the above).

  • Collected 40 rejuvs (including those in your belt). I used 21 rejuvs in total, most of them chasing Ubaal.

Gear i used just playing the game in hell mode

I find COH way to expensive to use in standard play. It consumes your money you can use to gamble. Instead i used an upped skulders ire (unique russet armor). Why? For the MF on it (linked with your level) It has a 1 to all skills which is of no use but makes it feel better :-) COH was worn by my merc.

Infernostride is of no use in standard play, except maybe when facing diablo or his buddy the clone. I used IK Boots. Why? For the MF combined with the maul.

Metal and ravens can be replaced by good crafted amus or rings in standard play.

The rest of the UT gear was also used for standard play.

With this gear you can do baal runs till you drop with your eyes closed, run for keys, chase cats,...It may take a while longer then some other charachters, but hey, you eventually get there, and thats all that matters.

Outro

For me the fun part of diablo was experimenting, finding some other ways then the standard known stuff to do my thing.|||http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...ighlight=guide

And now as this is in no way an improvement, nor more elaborate, nor better, no more indepth, nor additive to this guide expect perhaps in the deviance from using a Ribcracker for a IK Maul and the brilliant usage of "cham" in the IK maul.|||You put a cham in an IK maul, I think that means you could afford something better than an ik maul...

Also I would hardly class this as a cheap build with 2+ hrs in gear, torch, anni and equivalent of 18 5@ small charms.

If you wanted to slow ubers without over ridding life tap you could try giving your merc a kelpie snare (upped probably) for 75% slow.|||Good remark concerning the Kelpie snare. i had it ones but throw it away before i realised it could do a nice job. Dumb act of me, i know.

I say relatively cheap because i dont use runewords for prebuff or expensive main weaponry. Many use HoTo, and other runewords to pump up there wolf before going to battle. It will certainly help but it isnt necessary at all to do the Ubers.

There are builds where it is advised to collect grand charms with Shape and 45life or sc with life, dmg and ar. Here i only mention grand charms 15 allres, wich i have traded for an ist um each. The sc with life are in this build just an option, so no spending there.

A cham rune is traded for 2 ists, not the big spender there also.

The COH can indeed consume 13-15 ists, depending the price of the ber.

I can understand your remark, it isnt on its own a very cheap build, only if you compare it to some others.|||I don't get what's different enough about this build to make a separate guide from BJam's. Also, when using Fury, How often do you actually want to kill the minions? Do you need to take that heat off of you? If not then I still say feral is more efficient for Ubering purposes.|||Quote:

Actually you are right. I was a bit to eager to post this build i guess. Didnt saw the guide Bjam has written. Maybe i'll just remove this thread and post a reply to Bjam's guide with some alternatives.

The thing about feral rage was just to mention you dont absolutely need it to clear UT. But i won't argue with the fact it could speed things up.|||Seems like you have too many points into str. Ik maul has high str req and I would go with either upped shael ribby or shael shael ber tomby.
