You could also spend 40 points in fire claws and a synergy. I would say Reaper's works well enough that this isn't really neccesary.|||Baranar's Star is a good low cost option.
Ginther's Rift isn't bad either.|||Another option would be to find a random weapon you can use with a chance to cast Amplify Damage and equip it on the weapon switch. That way if you run into a phys immune, switch to the Amp weapon, swing away until it cast, and switch back to your main to apply the killing.
The main issue with that is making sure you're on the right weapon when you want to be, since you can't see equips in animal form.|||Atma's Scarab unique amulet has a 5% chance to cast Amplify Damage on it. It's somewhat common and not overly popular, so you might be able to trade for it cheap in game. If your attack speed is high using Fury, it should proc often enough at 5% to trigger. Once triggered, Ghosts, Spectres and the like drop like flies when you hit. I wouldn't wear it all the time unless you don't have a better amulet; just have it stashed for when you run areas where physical immunes tend to be.
Here are its stats:
5% Chance To Cast Level 2 Amplify Damage On Striking
20% Bonus To Attack Rating
+40 Poison Damage over 4 seconds
Poison Resist +75%
+3 To Light Radius
Attacker Takes Damage of 5
EDIT: you're using Oath and having issues? Oath casts Bone Spirit often ... those are magic damage and should make short work of the ghostie-types. Weird.
Rabies does help if it's maxed, and especially if synergized with Poison Creeper, but it takes time. I usually infect right off then switch to feral, pump up my red ball to max, then switch to Fury--assuming I have the time to do all that. Sometimes I'll retreat quickly between these steps to buy time and switch skills without taking too many hits.|||^Those spirits are for show only and do next-to-nothing

^Those spirits are for show only and do next-to-nothing

They do 380-413 magic damage (396 avg), so average damage is similar to the magic damage done by Azurewrath (250-500, 375 avg). Problem is, they only trigger 30% of the time per hit. Ghost-type monsters are 50% resistant to magic damage. In Hell they have 2453-4528 hit points.
OP: Fire or lightning damage work best against Ghosties. They're resistant to magic, cold, and poison.|||Quote:

You need to be careful when using the Arreat Summit as a source: 380-413 magic damage is applied by level 20 Bone Spirit for a Necromancer who's had to invest a point in Teeth and Bone Spear, whereas 340-369 magic damage would be applied by any character that hadn't invested points in synergy skills.
Furthermore, the Arreat Summit's Bestiaries are only accurate in Nightmare and Hell if monster level equals the area level in which they spawn, and the range of base life values is from the minimum in off-Ladder Realm games to the maximum in Ladder and single-player games. Ghosts are only level 75 when they spawn in the Tower Cellar Level 1, and have 3,270-4,528 base life in Ladder and single-player games; those that spawn in the Tower Cellar Level 5 are level 79 with 3,569-4,942 base life.
Beyond Normal, you should not assume the Arreat Summit's values for level and base defence, attack rating, life, damage and experience are accurate for anything other than boss monsters who don't get Unique bonuses.
So, an Oath Scourge's 30% Chance to Cast Level 20 Bone Spirit on Striking applies 340-369 magic damage; all Wraiths have Magic Resist 50%, halving that to 170-184.5. Wraiths in the Jail Levels 1-3 are the easiest to kill with 2,971-4,114 base life, so it'll take 17-25 Bone Spirits to kill one; with 30% Chance to Cast and 80% chance-to-hit, that's 68-101 attacks on average to kill a single Wraith.|||Quote:

Excellent information, thank you. The complexity of this game never ceases to intrigue me. Is the data that describes the relationship between monster and area levels, Realm differences, and the respective bonuses you mention accurately documented somewhere? I'll look on the Summit, but under the circumstances I can't help but wonder if any answers I derive would be correct.|||thanks!! no wonder it takes so damn long to kill those. i'm gonna check out the weapons recommended.
